Does my healthcare provider need to know anything before I start using Tadalafil?
You will need to inform your healthcare provider if you suffer from any of the following conditions:
- Problems with the eyes or your vision, such as retinitis pigmentosa, which is an eye disease that is rare and inherited;
- A history of having heart attacks, angina, irregular heartbeats, heart disease or any other problems with your heart;
- Low or high blood pressure;
- Liver or kidney disease;
- Suffered from strokes;
- Any allergies linked to the ingredients in tadalafil, foods, preservatives, dyes or any other medications.
How do I take the medication?
The medication is designed to be taken orally with water. It can be taken with food or without. You should take it 30 minutes to one hour before any form of sexual activity and only take one dose in 24 hours. Always follow the directions given to you by your healthcare provider.
If you believe that you have taken too much, contact your nearest emergency room or poison control center immediately.
It is important not to share this medication with others as it is prescribed to you.
I’ve missed a dose. What should I do?
Don’t worry if you do miss a dose. Take one as soon as you remember but do not take more than one dose a day.
What will this medication interact with?
This medication will have dangerous side effects when used with:
- Nitrates such as dinitrate, monoitrate, nitroglycerin, isosorbide and amyl nitrite;
- Some high blood pressure medications;
- Some medications used to help with HIV and AIDS;
- Some medications used to treat yeast and fungal infections, including itraconazole, voriconazole and fluconazole;
- Some drugs used to treat seizures, including phenobarbital and phenytoin;
- Grapefruit juice;
- Some macrolide antibiotics, including erythromycin, clarithromycin and troleandomycin;
- Drugs to treat some prostate problems;
- Rifampin, rifapentine and rifabutin.
This list does not cover all medications or items that can interact with the medication. It is important to inform your doctor of all medications that you are on, including supplements, herbal remedies and over-the-counter medications. You should also talk to your healthcare provider about your drinking habits, if you smoke and if you take illegal drugs. Some of these may cause side effects with the medication.
Is there anything that I should look out for while taking Tadalafil?
Some users may experience vision disturbances or changes. Please talk to your healthcare provider if you do. If you lose your sight in your eye(s), stop using the medication and speak to your healthcare provider immediately.
Call your doctor if your erection lasts for more than four hours or is painful. This could be a sign of a problem and may cause permanent damage if not treated immediately.
If you have any dizziness, arm pain, nausea or chest pain while taking the medication or during sexual activity, stop immediately and contact your healthcare provider.
Avoid excess alcohol (5 glasses of wine/shots of whiskey) while taking Tadalafil. Excessive alcohol increases the risk of headaches and dizziness, a lower blood pressure or increased heart rate.
This medication will not offer protection against HIV (which leads to AIDS) and other sexually transmitted infections.
What are the side effects of taking Tadalafil?
Common side effects, that will not need urgent medical attention, include:
- Muscle aches
- Stuffy nose
- Back pain
- Flushing of the face
You can report these to your doctor if you find that they are bothering you.
There are some side effects that will need attention from your doctor or healthcare provider to avoid any further issues. These include:
- Chest pain
- Problems with breathing
- Hearing changes
- Allergic reactions, including but not limited to itching, hives, rash, swelling in the tongue, lips or face
- Irregular or increased heart rate

Where should the medicine be stored?
Always keep the medication out of children’s reach.
Store between 15C and 30C (59F and 86F). Throw medication away if it is past its expiration date.
